OUTSOURCE 3D MODELING

It’s been more than a decade now we have been working on designing number of animation films, commercials, videogame, graphic art, 3d print and 3d model on behalf of our esteemed loyal clients. We come across number of showreels from most of the budding and aspiring designers dropping in our letterbox on daily basis. In this article we would like to highlight some of the Do’s and Don’ts for creating an impressive showreels as per our experience in line with market / client’s expectations.

It’s most important for an aspiring designer currently on the hunt for that dream animation project to include his/her most amazing work in his/her design portfolio. We very strongly recommend budding designers to have an impactful stunning start or the initiation point as it creates or sets stage / theme for the entire showreel. Showcase the work you are most proud of and that would represent / exhibit your creative talent for the investor, also an impressive start assures audience attention on what’s going to come.

Second most critical point is about the length of your showreel, we recommend keeping your showreel short and crisp. To gain your viewer’s attention on your skill and talent it’s advisable to keep it within 2 – 3 minutes max (lesser the better). While speaking about short and crisp we suggest to present diversity in your work but avoid long stories. Also in case you have an exposure of multiple fields and you wish to include all in your portfolio we suggest break the reels up and have one reel dedicated for a single discipline.

Yet one of the key aspects is not to repeat clips and create redundancy in mind of your viewer. End of the day keep a goal of keeping your viewer engaged and interested in your work of art, also maintaining a proper pace plays an important role in keeping your viewers engaged. Placing reel too slow, your viewers are likely to get bored as a result they may skip forward or even hit pause on the other hand if you keep it too fast you tend to fail in showcasing your talent. Striking a right balance between slow and fast pace of your reel as per the clip requirement will keep your audience engaged and interested in your work for example while editing a motion-graphic reel it can be edited on a little higher pace whereas while showcasing a character animation reel a little slower pace would enable a better read for your viewers.

Yet another good practice we suggest is to add captions where needed, captions help the audience understand the scene in a much better way. We suggest keeping captions simple with bare minimum number of words. Also keep captions in line with your ideas of showcasing your talent for example “Character animation” “Effects animation” etc.
