It’s been more than a decade now we have been working on designing number of animation films, commercials, videogame, graphic art, 3d print and 3d model on behalf of our esteemed loyal clients. We come across number of showreels from most of the budding and aspiring designers dropping in our letterbox on daily basis. In this article we would like to highlight some of the Do’s and Don’ts for creating an impressive showreels as per our experience in line with market / client’s expectations.

It’s most important for an aspiring designer currently on the hunt for that dream animation project to include his/her most amazing work in his/her design portfolio. We very strongly recommend budding designers to have an impactful stunning start or the initiation point as it creates or sets stage / theme for the entire showreel. Showcase the work you are most proud of and that would represent / exhibit your creative talent for the investor, also an impressive start assures audience attention on what’s going to come.

Second most critical point is about the length of your showreel, we recommend keeping your showreel short and crisp. To gain your viewer’s attention on your skill and talent it’s advisable to keep it within 2 – 3 minutes max (lesser the better). While speaking about short and crisp we suggest to present diversity in your work but avoid long stories. Also in case you have an exposure of multiple fields and you wish to include all in your portfolio we suggest break the reels up and have one reel dedicated for a single discipline.

Yet one of the key aspects is not to repeat clips and create redundancy in mind of your viewer. End of the day keep a goal of keeping your viewer engaged and interested in your work of art, also maintaining a proper pace plays an important role in keeping your viewers engaged. Placing reel too slow, your viewers are likely to get bored as a result they may skip forward or even hit pause on the other hand if you keep it too fast you tend to fail in showcasing your talent. Striking a right balance between slow and fast pace of your reel as per the clip requirement will keep your audience engaged and interested in your work for example while editing a motion-graphic reel it can be edited on a little higher pace whereas while showcasing a character animation reel a little slower pace would enable a better read for your viewers.

Yet another good practice we suggest is to add captions where needed, captions help the audience understand the scene in a much better way. We suggest keeping captions simple with bare minimum number of words. Also keep captions in line with your ideas of showcasing your talent for example “Character animation” “Effects animation” etc.

One of the most critical jobs a 3D model developer undertakes is getting or replicating the color of 3D Model as a keen visualizer. In this article we present a predictable and practical workflow that we follow to get the most accurate and near same replica of colors while coloring 3D Model.

The very first step is to get or match the temperature of your color, critically sorting out the gamma for input and output images including for the monitor display. Some of the advance platforms like 3ds Max automatically enables the gamma correction and set the value to 2.2 by default which in a way ensures that the input monitor at the Designers place correctly translates the input voltage for accurate light output.

OUTSOURCE 3D MODELING

Now after getting the first step right and sorting out the gamma correction, it’s time to actually create the color for our 3D model in 3ds Max. In general 3ds Max offers two options to the designers to create colors, first one being through a bitmap and the other through 3ds Max color selector tool. In general 3ds Max handles the first method pretty well as the option of bitmap is quite straight forward for example while coloring linear files such as HDRI it by default takes in the alignment of 1.0, on the other hand while Designer is coloring a non-linear file such as JPEGs the system ensures alignment of 2.2 by default. Also an important point to note is that, designer have an option to override the gamma of a bitmap while selecting the image file for import. So our recommendation to designers is that if they wish a specific color to represent their 3D Model they can well create it using their preferred image creation and editing software tool and then import the image to 3ds Max as a bitmap file.

Coming to our second option i.e. using color selector; things start getting more complicated as one dive deep while working on color selector tool. Good part of color selector tool is that the color of the bitmap gets corrected but unfortunately the tool doesn’t offer designers an easy option of selecting a custom color. To get a custom color created designers undertake some calculations to convert specific R, G and B values into the correct color space. The simple mathematical formula to get these values could be stated as 255 x (( old value / 255)^2.2 ), designer can straight away go to the numeric field in 3ds Max and press Ctrl + N which ‘ll bring up the numerical expression evaluator. Designers can simply place the old value in the field and extract the resulting value back to be apply on the 3D Model, this practice shall ensure a correct replication of the color.

3D MODEL OUTSOURCING

We as the leading Industry player while giving a shape to our global client’s thoughts on both conventional & digital canvas, has experienced number of trends shaping up & taking the entire Design’s Industry by storm in last couple of decades. One such trend which got popularised approximately twenty years back with the release of Jurassic Park was 3D model, precisely creature 3D model. Times has changed now, today young Designers are opting for a full-fledged career in 3D modeling, trend driven by a dramatic growth in requirements for 3D modelers in sectors such as Animation, Film, Games, Television & Broadcasting, Web, Advertising, Print, Medical, Marketing and many more. As an industry expert with our more than a decade of experience, in this article we share our knowledge on best practices followed for organic 3D modeling, as it make use of retopology tools, subdivision surfaces, normal maps, dynamesh, voxels and many other set of tools which makes things more confusing as to where each tool should be used and to accomplish what task.

Refresh & revise your drawing skills: Most of the time as logical progression follows, its 2D artists and the conventional designers who progress to become 3D modelers; we very strongly recommend to Designers with good drawing skills to keep refreshing their skills on paper moreover it’s always a good idea to get back to your drawing board and draw anatomy of the character or creature first before converting the same to digital identity. If in case a designer is intending to start afresh with 3D modeling, our recommendation is to have some good understanding about the anatomy of organic models / creatures via. Internet search for example how the skeletal structure is balanced and the way muscles attached to the bones move, slide and function; going a step further we also recommend the aspiring 3D modelers to register for a Drawing class.

Striking a balance between Form & Volume: We have observed most of the young modelers add too much of details to a model, which leads to the imbalance between the form & volume on certain parts of the subject. In any of the techniques box modeling or 3D sculpting we believe the most important first step is to get the overall shape of the 3D model right ideally which means striking a balance between the model’s form and volume.
Topology & Edge loops: Some of the technical guidelines one should be following while designing the desired character model are in lines with using subdivision modeling technique, it primarily relates to a good edge flow in certain areas of the mesh which often mirrors real-world anatomy. An edge loop is referred to as the continuous ring of polygons that follows a specific path around a model.

Subdivision Modeling: Subdivision modeling could better be referred to as the modeling technique that smooth out a mesh by dividing and rounding the polygons based on a specific set of algorithms. It’s directly proportional i.e. higher the subdivision level, the rounder or smoother the mesh appears.

Jena Chambers, after reaching the summit of taste of her delicious lollipops has now discovered a new way to add a personality to her tasty treats using 3D printing techniques. The very objective to bringing Pandora’s Pops to existence in the year 2012 was to create and offer treats that are as nourishing as they are delicious. Despite of her presence in offering these tasty & nourishing treats for few years she has paired up with 3D designer Lana Briscella to create 3D printed molds for her specialty flavors.

During an interview with local magazine Jena talks about her purpose and vision for Pandora’s pops, she says “Pandora’s pops are delicious holistic lollipops, elevating one’s brand and body with intentional super foods, herbs and essential oils. Some of the candies are sugar-free & others are sweetened with organic cane sugar; the range also include some of the innovative Alchemist turmeric, lavender & chamomile calming pops, Happy genius pops and many more.

3D MODEL OUTSOURCING

Talking about the inspiring 3D designs and pops models she add that Pandora’s pops have always been forward thinking with ingredients and purposes & recently we have started breaking into innovative shapes that matches the purpose of each lollipop like – Taste the Rainbow shape which came out for Gay Pride was the first of many that will be 3D designed. Our Burning Man lollipops intended for playa gifting and extending the celebration beyond Black Rock City are the second.

Talking about 3D modeling and printing Jena adds in her interview the most critical part of offering the most relevant shape as per the purpose is to understand the purpose creatively and as per the utility and come up with the most innovative and appealing 3D design which is not only aesthetic but also offers ease of preparing negative silicone molds to precisely reproduce the most accurate shape as per the design. 3D artist and designers should be capable enough to precisely understand the entire candy making process and as fillers should offer a breathing space for the mold maker and someone who is reproducing candies from those molds. 3D modeling and printing got a long & promising way to go for innovative product offerings in future.

Are you a budding or experienced designer thinking of getting into 3D Modeling space? Not sure how long will it take for you to create your first 3D model or thinking what you should do first while sitting in front of the blank screen of 3D software? As an expert in 3D Modeling space with more than a decade of experience we are here to share some tips for the budding designers intending to get into 3D modeling.
Firstly if you are wondering whether to get into this crowded space or not; let’s be very clear that 3D modeling is here to stay and the demand for 3D modelers is only going to go vertically up. To give you an indication today more than 70% of catalogue images in IKEA catalogue are 3D images & done using 3D software. Oculus Rift is been bought by Facebook for billions of dollars, an industry trend which in itself shall present numerous opportunities for 3D Modelers in virtual reality space. We all agree that virtual reality is going to have a much larger impact on people’s lives every day soon. Number of areas where 3D is getting involved is increasing exponentially right from development of films, virtual reality, R&D, Architectural, Interior, Industrial designs and many more; we strongly believe world need 3D modelers.

3D MODELING OUTSOURCING

Talking about the initiating doubt that beginners express – is there a pre-requisite to get into 3D Modeling? As experts we say if someone is passionate to work on computers and specifically on design software for long hours, passionate to give shapes to his/her thoughts in virtual world and most importantly able to imagine shapes & forms is 3D space, technicalities of designs, software and tools could learnt and implemented with an ease.
Once you are all set mentally to get into 3D modeling space, we strongly recommend to select your beginners software as most computers do not come pre-installed with any 3D modeling software.
Thought today for competition 3D software is starting to matter less & less as far as what you choose. We have experienced drastic upgrades & modifications in 3D software tools during recent years and can comment that at this point all the main software packages are so close to being on the same level that it really doesn’t matter which software one choose to start with. One can select to start with either Blander or 3DsMax or Maya all the three are quite capable of advancing one to the next level with an ease.
The next most critical question one asks is where to start or how to get started with a particular tool in place. We strongly recommend for beginners search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing would be the best place to search for beginners guide to a particular selected tool also these days as most of the experts share their learning and experiences via YouTube this video streaming platform become a vital tool to get started or learn tools and techniques to create one’s first 3D Model. Also if you decide to go with Blander as your first beginner software there are numerous free learner guides available online as Blander is been built by a community and is an open source free software.

Difference between Modeling for Games and Modeling for Movies - 3d model Outsourcing - Outsource 3d modeling

3D MODEL OUTSOURCING

Let it be 3DsMax or Maya, 3D designers and modelers primarily use most of the same tools and techniques to achieve a stunning piece of work. Having said that, no matter if the tools and techniques remain same in both modeling for movies and modeling for games still the process followed differ a lot and so are the limitations. With more than a decade of experience in Designs industry and having worked for numerous modeling assignments, here we would like to share some of the critical pointers out of our experience.

Designers get an open hand when it comes to the polygon budget for development of movies as compared to the polygon budget limitation in game development process. Let it be an animated movie like ‘How to train your Dragon’ or ‘Finding Nemo’ or a live action film with integrated computer graphics like ‘Pacific Rim’, there’s no limit on the amount of polygons in any given model. The only constraint designer of movie modeling face is the limitation of time. Like any other production house movie production also follows a deadline which technically means designers need to produce stunning looking models on time as the result designers for movies get freehand to use range of polygons to get the model look striking on screen.

OUTSOURCE 3D MODELING

The luxury of frames getting pre-rendered in movies is a big limitation for Games even today. Games are limited by the power of the game engine and the hardware it’s being played on. Despite of Hardware advancements with gaming consoles like Xbox One and PS4 still the processing capabilities can’t be compared with movies and game designers still face limitation of polygon budgets. The games are rendered in real-time right in front of the player hence to get the game running at a constant frame rate and maintaining it throughout the gameplay the 3D models must be created by the 3D modelers / designers at a level that’s not taxing on the game engine. There could be thousands of visual models getting rendered real time on screen as the player play their game.

One of the promising guiding principles we follow in our studio for Game modeling is to present details via textures. Since the polygon budget for Game modeling remains low our designer rely heavily on textures to present model details, which in turn goes with an ease in real time rendering environment; but a word of caution to budding designers – very critical point to remember while using texture to represent details is that one needs to learn details of texturing process along with properly laying out the UVs for a model before taking up a game modeling assignment.

Difference Between Sculpturing & Modeling - 3D Modeling - Outsource 3D Modeling

Leading Outsourcing company c-design provides OUTSOURCE CREATIVE SERVICES IN  Outsource 3d Modeling,3d Models, Modeling Services,3d Modeling Services in India. outsourcing 3d modeling works.

Right from the inception of 3D Modeling and Sculpturing or we can say launch of 3DMax and ZBrush we have been hearing about difference between Sculpture or Sculpturing and Model or Modeling. As an industry leaders with more than a decade of experience in designing more than a million designs on numerous platforms we very confidently say that though these concepts seems to overlap but there exist a line of difference between the two.

Let’s start with the basic definition of two in Designs industry. Digital sculpting also known as 3D sculpting could be defined as application of a designing software which offer tools to push, pull, smooth, grab, pinch or otherwise manipulate a digital object as it were made of a real-time material such as clay; on the other hand 3D modeling or three-dimensional modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any 3D surface of an object.

3D MODEL OUTSOURCING

Also we classify sculpting as the process of undertaking a low detail or detail free model and mucking around with subjected low detailed model as if it were a clay model, cleansing details iteration after iteration until one gets those obscenely detailed forms on the other hand we classify Modeling a lot more depended on the base structure (though base structure is important to both but is more immediately obvious in modeling as compared to sculpting), Technically Modeling comes down to individual polygons and the way they interact with each other; we suggest readers of this post to check for themselves, topology thread in the organic section.

As experts in designs industry we strongly suggest young and budding designers to prefer going with Modeling techniques over Sculpting if given a choice; Though it may look daunting and challenging in the beginning, also one may not be able to notice quick benefits but it certainly adds a radical value by understanding proper structure and topology of the model as compared with working on details on a hollow structure. We consider adding high details to a low poly-model as invaluable overall.
